My partner uses the gumball machine analogy: there are so many things that fill up our own personal gumball machines (like spending time doing hobbies we love, or being present with our partner), and things that deplete that gumball machine (stress, work deadlines, health issues etc). The challenge is making sure we keep an eye on our--and our partner's--gumball machines and support ways we each refill ours when the gumball levels are getting low.
